Please see below a link to a postdoc position in the School of Chemical Engineering at the University of Queensland, Australia.

This is to undertake predominantly experimental research on the Australian Research Council Discovery Project “Multiscale viscoelastic lubrication of soft matter systems” , led by Professor Jason Stokes and Dr Gleb Yakubov.

    http://jobs.uq.edu.au/caw/en/job/505619/postdoc-research-fellowresearch-fellow-in-soft-matter-rheology-and-lubrication

    The role:

The Project aims to develop new principles of viscoelastic lubrication in soft contacts. New insights into friction behaviour arising from complex fluid-substrate interactions are expected to be generated using techniques and interdisciplinary approaches that bridge rheology, tribology and surface science. The intended outcome is a phenomenological lubrication model that interprets the contribution of viscoelastic effects occurring across multiple length and time scales. This should provide significant benefits to diverse fields including advanced materials and complex fluids, engineering tribology, biolubrication and food structure design.  The scaling models discovered in the project will enable a transformational ability to interpret the many studies currently utilising soft tribology, including those in biotribology for biomedical applications and in food engineering where it is emerging as a design tool to create innovative consumer acceptable foods. Outputs will enhance innovation and growth in these and other fields for societal benefits (health, nutrition, well-being) and significantly advance the knowledge base.

    The person:

Applicants should possess qualifications in relevant disciplines. You should also have demonstrated capability to undertake research in areas aligned to the project such as rheology, tribology and surface science with knowledge on complex fluids and soft matter systems; ability to mentor or supervise research students; ability to work collaboratively with colleagues; high level communication skills and a passion for academic activities including research.  The person will directly report to Professor Jason Stokes in the School of Chemical Engineering.

Applications are due 16th January 2019 and we are looking for applicants who would be in a position to start early 2019.  Applicants should apply via the link provided.

    Cheers

    Jason Stokes & Gleb Yakubov

Are you an early- and mid-career researcher working in material science? Are you interested in events in the field of advanced materials that offer valuable engagement opportunities with peers and industry?

The Theo Murphy Initiative (Australia) through the Australian Academy of Science is offering a number of Emerging Researchers Mobility Grants to support a diversity of early- and mid-career researchers (EMCRs) to attend International Conference for Young Researchers on Advanced Materials (ICYRAM) in Adelaide.

The Mobility Grants are designed to offset the expenses associated with attending ICYRAM 2018 for those EMCRs who may not be able to attend this event without support and/or people from traditionally underrepresented demographics.

ICYRAM will run from 4 - 8 November 2018 at the Adelaide Convention Centre and is targeted for EMCRs working in materials science, engineering, and related disciplines. The conference aims to give all the researchers from around the world the opportunity to engage and network with peers and industry in the field of advanced materials.

Visit the Emerging Researchers Mobility Grant page for more information about this opportunity.

Applications close on Monday 18 June at 5pm (AEST).

If you have any questions about the grants please contact us at emcr@science.org.au
