Seven Vacancies in Mechanical and Construction Engineering (including Materials Science and Fluid Mechanics)

The Faculty of Engineering & Environment here at Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne (UK) is advertising a wide range of posts at different levels. The posts are advertised at:

                https://work4.northumbria.ac.uk/vacancies/

Please see the “Latest Vacancies” link at the bottom right hand side of the page.

The Department will consider high quality applicants in all disciplines relevant to Mechanical and Construction Engineering, but particularly wishes to encourage candidates who can strengthen our research and teaching in:

  • Architectural/Mechanical Engineering
  • Automotive Engineering/Mechatronic
  • Construction/Project Management
  • Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics – this could include Microfluidics
  • Materials Science/Engineering – this could include Soft Matter/Smart Materials/Microsystems Technology
  • Mechanics and Dynamics
  • Sustainable and Renewable Energy

The closing date for applications is 31st May 2016.

The Faculty policy is that areas of particular expertise may be signposted in Lecturer /Reader /Professor adverts, but we will always consider candidates with excellent research, theoretical or experimental, in any field covered by the department. Departments often have staff with a wide variety of disciplinary backgrounds, e.g. Staff within the Department of Mechanical & Construction Engineering have backgrounds in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Materials/Polymer Science, Project Management, Construction, etc.

Over recent years the University has made a substantial investment in excellent academic staff and according to the Times Higher Education was the largest riser in ranking (by 30 places) by research power of any UK University in the recent Research Excellence Framework (REF2014). Examples of recent outputs include,

From staff linked to Smart Materials & Surfaces Research within the Department of Mechanical and Construction Engineering:

From colleagues working on Smart Materials & Surfaces Research within the Department of Physics & Electrical Engineering:
