ACIS ECR Event: Non-Academic Career Pathways

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused financial upheaval in the university sector with the loss of many research jobs.  Early-career researchers and those on casual contracts have been particularly affected.  To support our members during this time the ACIS Equity & Diversity committee will hold a panel session focussed on non-academic career pathways on Tues 27 Oct from 5 – 6:30pm.  The event is mainly aimed at HDR students and ECRs who want to find out more about alternative career pathways other than the traditional academic route, including practical steps towards finding a job in industry, government or patent law.  Confirmed speakers and panel members include:

  • ·         Miles Kenyon, DMTC,
  • ·         Dr. Annabella Newton, Phillips Ormonde Fitzpatrick,
  • ·         Dr. Melanie Bradley, Orica and
  • ·         Dr. Gavin Styles, Dept. of Agriculture, Water and the Environment.

Speakers will detail their own career pathway and provide advice on making the transition from academia, before opening up to a panel session with questions from the audience.  Everyone, at any career stage, is welcome to attend.  Feel free to bring your favourite tipple (beer, tea, kombucha…) and lots of questions for our panel members.  Registration is essential to receive the Zoom link and can be completed using this link:
